William May, FFC Emerging Technology Committee co-chair and Director of the Office of Planning, Budget, and Applied Technology at the State Department

Kimon Onuma

Kimon Onuma, AIA has a unique perspective that spans architecture, planning, and programming software development. Kimon authored chapter six of the AIA book, "The 21st Century Architect - Integrated and Interoperable," for the 2006 AIA Conference on Integrated Practice. He is a strong advocate of Open Standards and is actively involved with the buildingSMART alliance and the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC). Kimon was on the AIA California Council committee that created the 'Integrated Project Delivery Guide".

Onuma was one of the first firms to use BIM on large scale US government facilities in 1994, which lead to the creation of the Onuma Planning System™ (OPS), a web enabled tool built on open standards, that allows users to work in BIM and GIS with simple interfaces. OPS was used by the US Coast Guard for the Sector Planning System which streamlined the design process of 35 sector Command Centers to six months. In Nov. of 2007 Kimon successfully used OPS in a BIMstorm with 60 architects in the Netherlands.
