Who Should Attend?
Ideally, participants will come as members of a 2-4 person team representing a school district, college, university, or consortium of institutions. Teams include members with a variety of experience and responsibility. However, non-team participants’ are also welcomed.
What will Participants Gain?
Insight into questions like: What is "mathematics for teaching" and how can it be learned and used? In what concrete ways can teachers continue to enhance their understanding and use of this mathematics? In what concrete ways can those responsible for educating future teachers help them to begin to learn and understand this mathematics?
What will Participants Do?
Although there will be a few plenary talks by outstanding practitioners in the education of teachers, there will be many more sessions in which participants will engage in activities which either elucidate the notion of the "mathematics of teaching" or model ways to enhance understanding of that mathematics.
Participants, especially participating teams, will have opportunities to outline action plans adapting the ideas of the conference to their home circumstances. A conference proceedings volume and other follow up support materials will also be available.
