Remarks of Chairman Dr. Lawrence H. Summers
Shortly after assuming the chairmanship of the Board on Science, Technology, and Economic Policy Dr. Lawrence H. Summers was named by President-elect Barack Obama to head the National Economic Council in the White House. On October 30th, 2008, Summers delivered one of his last public addresses before joining the Obama administration at a STEP event held at the National Academy of Sciences. Summers covered a wide range of topics including his observations on the financial crisis, the importance of investing in long-term sources of economic growth, and the integral role he sees for STEP in the future. Summers’ successor as STEP chair will be named shortly.
