Approaching Chaos: Visions from the Quantum Frontier
|

|
Approaching Chaos is an artistic exploration of classical and wave chaos by Harvard physicist Eric J. Heller. This exhibition features striking images generated by Heller's own research into the mysterious realm of quantum mechanics.
Printed by laser to photographic paper at ultra high resolution, Heller's art pushes aesthetic beyond the beautiful "found" pictures often produced by scientists of photogenic subjects like fractals. His impressions of the atomic world, of colliding mollecules, electron flow, and quantum waves, are hauntingly organic and familiar. The mega-scale images--many at sizes up to 50" and larger--exploit the vast capability of the computer to blur the line between science and art.
"My subject demands a new medium more suited to the realm of the electron, atam, and molecules then watercolor or any traditional medium. My brush is the computer..."
--E.J. Heller
