Since his American debut as the silver medalist at the Tenth Van Cliburn International Piano Competition in 1997, Yakov Kasman has performed concerts in the United States, Russia, Europe, and Asia, and appeared as soloist with more than fifty orchestras, including the Oregon and Buffalo Philharmonics, the Nashville and Ft. Worth Symphonies, and the Moscow Philharmonic. Among his many honors is the Grand Prix du Disque for his complete Prokofiev Sonata CD set. Active as a chamber musician, he has collaborated with such esteemed ensembles as the Tokyo String Quartet. Born near the town of Orel, near Moscow, Kasman began his piano studies at the age of four. He is a Professor of piano and Artist-in-Residence at the University of Alabama in Birmingham. This concert is Kasman’s Washington, D.C. debut.
