Rosamond Purcell’s photographs of natural history collections and specimens have been exhibited widely at venues including the New York Academy of Sciences, Exploratorium (San Francisco); Bishop Museum (Honolulu), Field Museum (Chicago), and the Museum of Comparative Zoology (Cambridge, Mass.). She has also developed installations for several museums, including the Museo Nacional de Ciencias Naturales (Madrid), Getty Center (Santa Monica), and Schlesinger Library (Cambridge, Mass.). Her work is represented in collections throughout North America.
Purcell’s publications include Finders Keepers, Treasures and Oddities from the Collections of Peter the Great to Agassiz with text by Stephen Jay Gould; Special Cases: Natural Anomalies and Historical Monsters; Swift as a Shadow: Extinct and Endangered Animals; Crossing Over: Where Art and Science Meet with text by Stephen Jay Gould; and Deception, Fate and Rotten Luck with text by Ricky Jay.
