This exhibition features vividly-colored botanical abstractions. “The organic paintings are close-ups,” Feuz explains, "[as though] you have entered into a landscape and the details of a strange, humid, wet, and dangerous life have become visible.”
The paintings are influenced by Feuz’s immediate environment. He says that he draws upon the colors found in everyday objects such as candy, advertising, his own photographs, and items from the supermarket for his palette.
Over the past six years, Feuz has created four exhibits: “Psychotropical,” “Technicolor,” “Gulfstream,” and “Supernatural.” These interrelated series explore the genesis, life, and gradual decay of natural and abstract flowers and other organic material. The paintings depict organic forms at varying levels of magnification.
Born in Vienna, Austria, he divides his time between Geneva and Berlin. Feuz studied at the Ecole Superior des Beaux Arts in Geneva. His work has been exhibited at galleries in Berlin, Brussels, Geneva, New York City, Paris, San Francisco, and Zurich.
The National Academy of Sciences will host a public reception for Feuz on Sunday, Oct. 22, from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at 2100 C St. N.W., Washington, D.C. A concert by the Jupiter Symphony Chamber Players will follow the reception at 3 p.m.
