Robert Van Vranken
Untitled (Everything at once, or, one thing at a time?)
oil and paper on board
96 x 66 x 5 inches
2004
With images that mirror the Great Hall of the National Academy of Sciences on Constitution Avenue in Washington, D.C., Robert Van Vranken’s imagined library contains evidence of an active mind contemplating the complexity of time as well as the diverse origins of knowledge-both real and mythological. In 2004, the National Academy of Sciences commissioned this painting to hang in the Great Hall in honor of Janis Tomlinson, Director of Exhibitions and Cultural Programs, 1999-2003.
