blow up 30, the formation of steel stems from a series commissioned for permanent display at the Empire State Building in which the artist explored the primary materials used to build the landmark building. By focusing on the microscopic structure steel, Kysa highlights the striking inner architecture of this seemingly mundane building material.
The steel drawing is based on diagrams of the crystallization of iron particles around impurities during the cooling process of steel.
