Completed BBCSS Project
Genetics of Drug Addiction
The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) funded a broad range of molecular genetics studies, but has funded little research in the behavioral, ethical, legal, and social questions that will inevitably be asked as the genetic aspects of drug addiction are discovered. NIDA has asked the National Research Council and the Institute of Medicine to conduct a two-day conference on these issues with emphasis on the unique concerns that the topic of drug abuse brings to them. The conference has assisted NIDA in formulating necessary programs of research in these areas. The conference was held on November 13-14, 2003.
