Tim Shepheard-Walwyn is Chairman and co-founder of Lightfoot Solutions, a company specialising in the use of statistical process control techniques to achieve performance improvement and operational risk management in service businesses. Tim has extensive experience of designing and implementing group wide risk management processes and risk governance frameworks in major financial institutions. Prior to founding Lightfoot, Tim was Group Risk Director and a member of the Group Executive Committee at Barclays plc. During his time at Barclays he completely reengineered Group’s approach to risk management, establishing a new Group governance framework and establishing a business aligned Group Risk organisation covering credit, market, operational and compliance risks. Before joining Barclays, Tim was a Managing Director in Corporate Risk Control at UBS Group in Switzerland where he was responsible for group wide risk analysis and policy, and was responsible for developing the risk management framework and policies that were adopted following the merger between Swiss Bank Corporation and Union Bank of Switzerland. Tim started his career as an economist at the Bank of England where he worked on capital markets and monetary policy issues and was seconded to the Diplomatic Service as First Secretary in the UK Delegation to the EU. He has also spent some time working in financial services supervision both at the Bank of England and the Securities and Investments Board (the predecessor organisation to the Financial services Authority). Tim has written a number of articles on risk management and economic capital and was co author of The Practice of Risk Management - one of the standard texts on risk management in banks.
