Alice M. Agogino: Biographical Sketch

Alice M. Agogino is the Roscoe and Elizabeth Hughes Professor of Mechanical Engineering and affiliated faculty at the Haas School of Business in their Operations and Information Technology Management Group at the University of California at Berkeley. She directs the Berkeley Expert Systems Technology (BEST) Laboratory, the Berkeley Instructional Technology Studio (BITS) and the BITS Multimedia Classroom. Her research interests include intelligent learning systems, educational digital libraries, mobile learning, information retrieval and data mining, probabilistic modeling, intelligent control and manufacturing, graphics, multimedia and computer-aided design, artificial intelligence and decision and expert systems. She received an NSF Presidential Young Investigator Award in 1985 and the SME Young Manufacturing Engineer of the Year Award for 1987/88. She is a fellow of the AAAS and member of the National Academy of Engineering. She currently serves a Chair of the Committee on Membership; and member of the Panel for Manufacturing Engineering, and Committee on Engineering Education at the Academies. Dr. Agogino received a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of New Mexico, M.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of California at Berkeley and Ph.D. from the Department of Engineering-Economic Systems at Stanford University.
