William Bonvillian: Biographical Sketch
William Bonvillian has been director of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT)’s Washington, D.C. Office since 2006. Prior to this position, he served for seventeen years as a senior policy advisor in the U.S. Senate. He is also an adjunct assistant professor at Georgetown University and has taught at George Washington University and at MIT. Bonvillian is the author of numerous articles on science and technology issues, and his recent book "Structuring an Energy Technology Revolution" (with Charles Weiss) was published in 2009. He has written legislation in the areas of science, technology, and economic innovation. Prior to leaving the Senate, he worked on legislation that came in direct response to Rising Above the Gathering Storm. Bonvillian has an abiding interest in science and technology policy and science education and has been invited to speak to the National Academies and to many other groups about these topics. He received the IEEE's public service award in 2007. Currently, Bonvillian is working for MIT on education and science issues. Bonvillian earned a B.A. from Columbia in history, a M.A.R. in religion from Yale, and a J.D. from Columbia School of Law.
