High School Science Laboratories: Role and Vision
	At the request of the National Science Foundation, the Board on Science Education (BOSE) conducted a study of high school science laboratories. The Board assembled an expert committee that examined the current status of high school science laboratories and developed a vision for the future. Committee members included scientists, high school science teachers, experts in cognitive psychology, technologists, curriculum specialists, science educators, and education policy and practice experts. The committee met on March 29th-30th, 2004; June 3rd-4th, 2004; and July 12th-13th, 2004. These meetings provided an opportunity to rethink the purpose of labs as a context for learning and a tool for science education.
The expert committee synthesized and analyzed information from the meetings and other sources. The result is a consensus report with findings about high school science laboratories and recommendations to move towards its vision of the future.
