Janet Coffey is currently on the faculty in the Science Teaching Center at the College of Education at the University of Maryland, College Park. Dr. Coffey has worked on numerous research projects related to everyday assessment in classrooms. Her research interests focus on the intersections of assessment and student learning in school and in out-of-school settings, and she is particularly interested in student participation in assessment. She has also worked with teachers in assessment-centered professional development. She has published articles and edited a book on science assessment (with J Myron Atkin). She also worked at the National Research Council with the team that developed the National Science Education Standards. She earned her Ph.D. in education from Stanford University, where she also completed a B.A. in human biology.
