Laura Martin: Biographical Sketch

Laura Martin is the Director of Science Interpretation at the Arizona Science Center and a visiting professor at Arizona State University, College of Education. She is a visiting professor at Arizona State University in the College of Education. She comes to the center from The Phoenix Zoo where she was the Executive Vice President of Experiences. Prior to the Phoenix Zoo, she was Director of Research, Center for Teaching and Learning and Center for Informal Learning and Schools both at the Exploratorium, San Francisco. From 1994 - 2002 she served as Vice President and Director of Education and Research at the Arizona Science Center. Prior to her work at the Arizona Science Center she was vice president of production research for Children's Television Workshop. She has authored numerous peer reviewed publications and book chapters on learning science and mathematics in a variety of settings. In addition, she produced over 110 research reports for the Arizona Science Center including background research, literature reviews, market research, program evaluations and basic topics in learning. She has also written curriculum and developed demonstration projects in science. She has also published in peer reviewed journals. She is a member of many associations and is the organizer as well as a participant of Informal Learning Opportunities Network. She received her BA in History from the University of Chicago, MS in Education from Bank Street College of Education, MA and Ph.D. in Psychology: Cognition and Development from the University of California, San Diego.
