Nina Hike-Teague is an Environmental Science Instructor for the Chicago Public Schools, the nation’s third largest school district. Mrs. Hike-Teague began teaching high school biology and environmental science at Rezin Orr High School in 1996 as a member of Teachers for Chicago. After 3 years, she transferred to Curie High School where she currently teaches Advanced Placement, Honors, and Regular Environmental Science. She is a pilot teacher and Toyota Teacher Leader for the Looking at the Environment Curriculum developed at the Center for Learning Technologies in Urban Schools at Northwestern University. She is a member of the Chicago Public Schools Textbook Selection Committee for Environmental Science and the North American Association of Environmental Educators. She has written lesson plans for Chicago Public School’s Structured Curriculum and North Central Regional Educational Laboratory. She is currently participating in the Research Experience for Teachers Program at Illinois Institute of Technology that is funded by the National Science Foundation. In the program she works closely with Dr. Herek Clack a Professor of Mechanical Materials Aerospace Engineering to learn about his research, create an educational module related to his research, and then she will train 30 additional teachers to use the educational module. She earned a bachelor’s degree in biology/chemistry from the University of Illinois at Chicago, and a masters degree from DePaul University in secondary education.
