Nancy J. Nersessian is Professor of Cognitive Science and Director of the Program in Cognitive Science at Georgia Institute of Technology. She holds appointments in the School of Public Policy and the College of Computing. She is author of numerous publications on these topics, including the book, Faraday to Einstein: Constructing Meaning in Scientific Theories, and is currently at work on a book, Creating Scientific Concepts: Model-based Reasoning in Conceptual Change, to be published by MIT Press. Additionally, she recently edited the book Logical and Computational Aspects of Model-Based Reasoning with Lorenzo Magnani and Claudio Pizzi. Dr. Nersessian has been a Fulbright Research Scholar to the University of Leiden, the Netherlands, a Fellow of the Netherlands Institute for Advanced Study, a Senior Fellow of the Pittsburgh Center for the Philosophy of Science, a Senior Fellow of the Dibner Institute for the History of Science and Technology, and has been invited next year as a Fellow of Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study. She has taught at several institutions, including the Technical University of Twente, the Netherlands and Princeton University. Her work has been supported by grants from NEH and NSF. She has been a member of the national review panel and the committee of visitors for the Science, Technology, and Society Program at NSF, an elected member of the Governing Boards of the Philosophy of Science Association and of The Cognitive Science Society, and was elected Chair of the Cognitive Science Society, 2003-004. Dr. Nersessian has an A.B. in physics and philosophy from Boston University and M.A. and Ph.D. degrees from Case Western Reserve University in philosophy.
