Dr. Mark Windschitl is an Associate Professor in the College of Education at the University of Washington. He is a former secondary science teacher with 13 years of experience and was one of the first members of the NASA Honor Society for Educators. His research focuses on how engagement in authentic forms of inquiry influences pre-service teachers’ understanding of the canonical practices in science. He currently teaches secondary science methods in the Teacher Education Program as well as doctoral seminars on reform-based teaching in science, investigating one’s own teaching practices, and the research-based foundations for professional development of math and science teachers. His recent writing on the dilemmas of constructivist approaches to teaching won the 2003 AERA Presidential Award for Best Review of Research.
