Mitchell Chester is the Senior Associate Superintendent for Policy and Accountability for the Ohio Department of Education. His responsibilities in Ohio include standards, assessments, accountability, policy development, and strategic planning. In addition, he oversees the state’s implementation of the federal No Child Left Behind Act. From 1997 through 2001, Dr. Chester served as the Executive Director for Accountability and Assessment for the school district of Philadelphia. Prior to that, he was Chief of the Bureau of Curriculum and Instructional Programs of the Connecticut State Department of Education. There he helped to develop standards and performance assessments for novice and experienced teachers and school administrators. Dr. Chester has also been a teacher, assistant principal, and curriculum coordinator in three school districts. He holds a doctorate in Administration, Planning, and Social Policy from Harvard University, as well as advanced degrees from the University of Connecticut and the University of Hartford.
