Deborah Newby is with the US Department of Education’s EDFacts program, which collects, analyzes, and reports on K-12 performance data. Before joining the Department in 2008, Ms. Newby served for six years as director of data quality for the Council of Chief State School Officers. In that role, she led various Council initiatives related to improving the quality and comparability of education data, and participated in a number of national efforts to improve the availability and use of education data for policy making. Previously, she managed the ERIC Clearinghouse on Teaching and Teacher Education at the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education. Ms. Newby holds a bachelor’s degree in mass communications from Virginia Commonwealth University, and a master’s degree in education from Lynchburg College in Virginia.
