Committee on Foundations of Educational and Psychological Assessment
This study will:
- build upon the findings of the Committee on Developments in the Science of Learning, which synthesized research in the cognitive and neuro sciences, and explore their implications for the science of psychological and educational assessment (psychometrics) generally and for science and mathematics assessment specifically;
- monitor evolving practice in science and mathematics assessment in American schools and school districts, evaluate the extent to which they derive from emerging research in learning and instruction, and explore their implications for the enrichment of assessment theory, research, and development of practicable assessment tools; and
- help improve public understanding of assessment and other educational data pertinent to reform strategies in science, mathematics, and other subjects.
The study will produce a final report by September 30, 2000, and six workshop summaries (two during each year of the project).
