- New Survey of Astronomy and Astrophysics Released. Co-chairs Chris McKee and Joe Taylor summarize the report and outline priorities for major projects.
- The Impact of Selling the Helium Reserve. Co-chairs Ray Beebe and John Reppy give a précis of the report describing the impact on science and technology of the legislatively mandated selling of the Federal Helium Reserve.
- BPA Meets in Washington. The policy topic for this meeting was research in the Department of Defense, and the science topic was the Next Generation Space Telescope. The article briefly recounts the discussion of these subjects.

- The Impact of Selling the Federal Helium Reserve. A report mandated by Public Law 104-273 analyzing the impact of selling the contents of the federal helium reserve on science and technology has been published. Committee cochair Ray Beebe briefed Congressman Christopher Cox, who sponsored PL 104-273.
- Astronomy and Astrophysics in the New Millennium. The prepublication draft of the report of the Astronomy and Astrophysics Survey Committee is now available. It was released at a public meeting held at the Academies' headquarters in Washington, DC. An interview with the co-chairs Joseph Taylor and Christopher McKee was published in the New York Times on Friday, May 19 (A-18).

- Board on Physics and Astronomy to meet in Washington on April 28-29. The agenda is now available.
- The Astronomy and Astrophysics Survey Committee tentatively plans release of its report at a public meeting on May 19, 2000 at the Academies' headquarters in Washington, DC.
