Planning Meeting on Education for 21st Century Skills

The Center for Education is convening this meeting to plan future research and policy studies aimed at preparing people for the 21st century economy. The planning meeting will address what is known and what remains unknown about 21st century skills, whether current education and workforce development policies reflect what is known, and whether further NRC activity might help to inform policies that would support development of 21st century skills. The meeting will engage policymakers and state and federal officials in discussion of what policymakers want to know about 21st century skills and include presentations and discussion of the future skill requirements of the economy. Experts will discuss the possibilities for developing 21st century skills through reforms in education, focusing particularly on science, mathematics, engineering and technology education. All attendees will be invited to participate in brainstorming key questions that would help to frame a possible future Center for Education study of education for 21st century skills.
