Arne L. Kalleberg is the Kenan Distinguished Professor of Sociology and the Senior Associate Dean for Social Sciences and International Programs in the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He also serves on the Advisory Board of the UNC Center on Poverty, Work and Opportunity. He received his B.A. from Brooklyn College and his M.S. and Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin at Madison. He was a Professor of Sociology at Indiana University—Bloomington before joining the faculty at UNC-Chapel Hill in 1986. He has published more than 100 articles and chapters and ten books on topics related to the sociology of work, organizations, occupations and industries, labor markets, and social stratification. In 1997-1999, he was member of the NRC Committee on Techniques for the Enhancement of Human Performance: Occupational Analysis. He will serve as the President of the American Sociological Association in 2007-8.
