Marilou Hyson is Senior Consultant with the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) in Washington, DC, and is an Affiliate Faculty member in Applied Developmental Psychology at George Mason University. Having worked as a preschool and kindergarten teacher and as professor and department chair at the University of Delaware, over the past six years Dr. Marilou Hyson has served as NAEYC’s Associate Executive Director for Professional Development and as NAEYC’s Senior Advisor for Research and Professional Practice. While at NAEYC she helped to revise standards for early childhood professional preparation and worked on accreditation and national recognition for 2- and 4-year higher education programs. She has also helped develop position statements on early learning standards, early childhood mathematics, and curriculum/assessment/program evaluation. Formerly editor of Early Childhood Research Quarterly, Dr. Hyson’s research and publications have emphasized emotional development, parents’ and teachers’ beliefs and educational practices, and teacher preparation. She serves as an Early Childhood Education consultant for the World Bank on a new project in Indonesia.
