Barbara Reys is the Lois Knowles Professor of Mathematics Education and Director of the National Science Foundation Center for the Study of Mathematics Curriculum at the University of Missouri. She has an undergraduate degree in Mathematics and a PhD in Mathematics Education. She served as a writing group leader for the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) Principles and Standards for School Mathematics published in 2000 and on the NCTM Board of Directors from 2001-04. Reys is currently the President-Elect of the Association of Mathematics Teacher Educators. Her current research focuses on the role and influence of curriculum standards and textbooks in teaching and learning mathematics, K-12. Reys recently published an analysis of mathematics curriculum standards produced by 42 state Departments of Education, documenting the lack of consensus regarding grade placement of important topics in mathematics, K-8.
