Lawrence Schweinhart is President of the High/Scope Educational Research Foundation in Ypsilanti, Michigan, where he has conducted research since 1975. His current projects at High/Scope include the Head Start Quality Research Center, to assess the effectiveness and quality of Head Start, and the state evaluation for the Michigan School Readiness Program for at-risk four-year-olds. Dr. Schweinhart has authored many reports and publications for High/Scope and is well-published in other venues on the issues of early childhood education, curriculum, evaluation and assessment. He is Chair of the Michigan Association for the Education of Young Children and recently completed a four-year term on the Governing Board of the National Association for the Education of Young Children. Dr. Schweinhart has taught at the elementary, undergraduate and graduate levels and has lectured in the United States and abroad. He earned his Ph.D. in Education from Indiana University.
