William Tate is Chair and Professor of Education in Arts and Sciences at Washington University in St. Louis. He has authored more than 40 journal articles and book chapters focused on school mathematics, school science, technology education, and urban school reform. He is the co-author of an elementary mathematics textbook series and has also served as an editor of the American Educational Research Journal. In 1998, Dr. Tate received an Outstanding Scholar Award from the Special Interest Group Research Focus on Black Education of the American Educational Research Assocation (AERA). In 2000, he received an Early Career Research Award from AERA for his scholarly contributions to mathematics education and urban education. He previously served on the NRC's Math and Science Education Board and on the Committee on Equivalency and Linkage of Educational Tests. He has a Ph.D. in curriculum and instruction from the University of Maryland.
