Panel on the Evaluation of USDA's Methodology for Estimating Eligibility and Participation for the WIC Program

_____________________________________________________________________________

Background

The Panel on the Evaluation of USDA's Methodology for Estimating Eligibility and Participation for the WIC Program was convened by the Committee on National Statistics in collaboration with the Board on Children, Youth, and Families and the Food and Nutrition Board of the Institute of Medicine, in fall 2000 at the request of the Economic Research Service and the Food and Nutrition Service of the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

The Panel will review the current methods employed by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and alternative methods for estimating the numbers of people who are eligible for and likely to participate in the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC).
