State Children's Health Insurance Program
_____________________________________________________________________________
Background
The Committee on National Statistics proposes to conduct a workshop on methods for improving enrollment in the State Children's Health Insurance Program (S-CHIP), for retaining children in the program, and for evaluating enrollment and retention success. All states are now receiving funds for the program and each state can opt to use the funds to create a stand alone health insurance for children in low income families, to enhance their existing Medicaid program, or to create a combination of the two. The workshop will focus on state efforts that have proven succesful and will seek advice from program evaluation. The Oversight Committee will attempt to arrive at a consensus on the results of the workshop and to develop recommendations that will be helpful for state programs.
