Panel on DHHS Collection of Race and Ethnicity Data
_____________________________________________________________________________
Background
The Panel on DHHS Collection of Race and Ethnicity Data was convened by the Committee on National Statistics, National Research Council, in April 2002. Edward Perrin chairs the panel. He is a Professor Emeritus at the University of Washington.
This study will review DHHS’ data collection systems and practices, and any data collection or reporting systems required under Department programs. The panel will review data needs for evaluating the effects of socioeconomic status, race and ethnicity on access to health care and on disparity in health and other social outcomes and the data needed to enforce existing protections for equal access to heath care; evaluate the effectiveness of the data systems and collection practices of DHHS; and identify critical gaps in the data and suggest ways in which they could be filled.
