Three years later he became a pilot teacher and curriculum developer for the University of Chicago School Mathematics Project. Later Sloane transitioned to industry, building the largest privately held employee research group in the country. In his role at Hewitt Associates he developed models of employee engagement, and a ranking system that supports the study of the 100 Best Companies to Work for in the US. He has served as associate editor on a number of Education journals including: Journal for Research in Mathematics Education, Educational Theory, and the American Journal of Education.
