Hugh Mehan
Hugh Mehan is a Professor in the Teacher Education Program at University of California San Diego. Dr. Mehan has been doing research into a wide range of issues concerning educational inequality and equity. Recently he has been doing studies of educational reforms aimed at closing the achievement gap between low income minority students and their well-to-do contemporaries. Recent publications include Recommendations Regarding Research Priorities: An Advisory Report to the National Educational Research Policy and Priorities Board Submitted by the National Academy of Education (with Ann L. Brown, James G. Greeno, Magdalene Lampert, and Lauren B. Resnick). New York: National Academy of Education, and Closing the Achievement Gap in the San Diego City Schools. La Jolla: The San Diego Dialogue. Dr. Mehan earned a Ph.D. in Sociology at University of California Santa Barbara in 1971.
