Margaret McKeown

Margaret G. McKeown is a Senior Scientist at University of Pittsburgh's Learning Research and Development Center. Dr. McKeown's work addresses practical, current problems that classroom teachers and their students face.  Her work covers the areas of instructional design and teacher professional development in reading comprehension and vocabulary. Dr. McKeown received her Ph.D. in education from the University of Pittsburgh in 1983.  Her dissertation received the Most Outstanding Dissertation Award for 1985 from the International Reading Association. She has served as Vice-president for Division C of the American Educational Research Association, and is currently the editor of AERA's research journal, American Educational Research Journal.  Dr. McKeown has published extensively in outlets for both research and practitioner audiences.  Dr. McKeown has been a frequent speaker at professional conferences and has served as a consultant to school districts and publishing companies. Before her career in research, Dr. McKeown taught reading and language arts in elementary school.
