Marilyn McMillen Seastrom
Marilyn McMillen Seastrom began her career in government in 22 years ago. Since 1988 Dr. Seastrom has worked at the National Center for Education Statistics in the U.S. Department of Education; working first as an analyst, and then as a Senior Technical Advisor prior to assuming her current role as the Chief Statistician and Director of the Statistical Standards Program at NCES. In that role, one of her duties includes the data security program at NCES, where she is responsible for the data licensing program and the Disclosure Review Board. As a part of the OMB quality information initiative she coordinated the revision of the NCES Statistical Standards, and was a co-author of the Department of Education’s Quality Information Guidelines. She also runs the NCES review process for NCES publications and data products. Dr. Seastrom also continues to conduct and publish her own substantive and methodological analysis. Dr. Seastrom is an active member in a number of professional associations, serves as a member of the Federal Committee on Statistical Methodology, and was recently selected as a Fellow of the American Statistical Association. Dr. Seastrom received her doctoral degree in applied statistics and demography from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
