Steven Breckler
Steven Breckler is Program Director for Social Psychology at the National Science Foundation. He has been at NSF since 1995. Prior to joining NSF, Dr. Breckler was associate professor of psychology at Johns Hopkins University, where he served on the faculty for eleven years. In addition to managing the social psychology program, he serves as cluster coordinator for the Cognitive, Psychological, and Language Sciences Cluster, and was the Acting Division Director for Behavioral and Cognitive Sciences for most of calendar year 2000. He has also been active in a number of Foundation-wide initiatives. In 1997 he was a member of the Learning and Intelligent Systems (LIS) working group, and in 1998 he was Chair of that working group (by then, one of three components of the KDI initiative). Dr. Breckler has participated in the management of the Interagency Education Research Initiative (IERI), and currently sits on an interagency committee to coordinate education-related activities between NSF, NASA, and the Department of Education. Dr. Breckler co-chairs the implementation committee responsible for developing a new program being planned for Science of Learning Centers (SLC). Through all of these activities, Dr. Breckler has gained considerable experience with the various approaches to peer review used at the National Science Foundation.
