Study Committees

This convocation is a joint effort of two Academies’ study committees:

The Committee on Underrepresented Groups and the Expansion of the Science and Engineering Pipeline is focusing on the recruitment, retention, and success of underrepresented minorities in science, technology, mathematics and engineering education. Committee members will examine the following questions: What are the key social and institutional barriers that keep underrepresented minorities from science and engineering fields? What are the focus points for policy intervention in the recruitment and retention of underrepresented groups and what programs are currently in place to address this? What can the public and private sectors do to better assist minority students as they enter science and engineering and continue on the pathway to S&E careers?

Committee on Underrepresented Groups and the S&E Workforce Pipeline

The Committee on Capitalizing on the Diversity of the Science and Engineering Workforce will examine possible solutions to increase the representation of women and underrepresented minorities in the science and engineering workforce. It will examine the following questions: What is the representation of women and minorities in science and engineering industry? Do they hold significant leadership positions within science and engineering companies? What are the current challenges that affect the recruitment, retention, and advancement of these groups in industry? What are the industry policies and practices that are effective in retaining and advancing women and minorities?
