Committee on Future Directions for Cognitive Research on Aging
Publication: The Aging Mind: Opportunities in Cognitive Research (2000)
The study identified areas of opportunity in which additional research support from the National Institute of Aging (NIA) would substantially improve basic understanding of cognition and aging by drawing on recent developments in behavioral, cognitive, and neuroscience that are not yet fully applied to this subject area. (Cognition is construed broadly to include sensation, information processing, language, memory, problem solving, emotional regulation, learning, decision making, and social perception and judgment.) The study identified research opportunities that would have the added benefit of linking behavioral, neuroscience, and cognitive science approaches to cognition and aging in new ways.
