Achieving XXcellence: The Role of Professional Societies in
Advancing Women's Careers in Science and Clinical Research

July 8-9, 2002, Washington, DC

A one-and-a-half-day workshop was held, which gathered representatives of clinical societies to discuss ways for the societies to enhance the participation of women scientists in the clinical research workforce. The workshop was a follow-up to AXXS 1999, in which representatives of science societies gathered to identify ways to improve the advancement of women in their respective fields.

The workshop focused on:


1)
initiatives and action items clinical societies can adopt within their organizations to enhance women's advancement in the clinical research field;

2)
ways for clinical societies to disseminate successful strategies to advance women's careers; and

3)
ways that clinical societies can collaborate to promote women's contributions to their fields.
