Committee on Opportunities to Address Clinical Research Workforce Diversity Needs for 2010
Sponsored by the Office of Research on Women’s Health at the National Institutes of Health
The Committee on Women in Science and Engineering (CWSE) convened a workshop with the advice from committee members to study collaborative opportunities to enhance participation and promote diversity in the clinical research workforce. A goal of the workshop was to provide an assessment of current progress with respect to women and diversity and identify sectors of the workforce that require further attention. The workshop focused on patient oriented clinical research and on the careers of physicians, nurse investigators, and other health professionals involved in such research examining gender differences and similarities.
In support of this workshop, CWSE will consult with the Institute of Medicine to identify and examine issues of importance to and will explore existing training programs and the characteristics of trainees, academic institutions, and private industry that employ clinical researchers.
