Florence Bonner
Associate Vice President for Research & Compliance, Howard University
Dr. Florence Bonner is Professor and Chairperson of the Sociology and Anthropology Department at Howard University. She is also the founder of the African American Women’s Institute and a Senior Fellow at the National Science Foundation. Dr. Bonner has held positions in professional organizations such as Secretary/Treasurer of the American Sociological Association, Chair of Finance and Budget Committee Society for the Study of Social Problems, Associate Editor of National Journal on Race, Associate Editor of Race and Society (Journal of the Association of Black Sociologists), President of Association of Black Sociologists, Vice President of Sociologist for Women in Society, and Co-chair of the Program Committee for the Eastern Sociological Association. Dr. Bonner’s professional degrees include a Master and a Doctorate in Behavioral Science from Rice University in 1978. Her research interests are in ethnic and race relations, urban sociology, sociology of the family, and sociology of deviance.
