Associateship and Fellowship Programs Advisory Committee
The tasks of the Associateship and Fellowship Programs Advisory Committee
(AFPAC) are as follows:
- To consider and make recommendations to the Associateship and Fellowship Programs concerning broad issues that influence the need for and health of NRC programs that provide support for predoctoral and postdoctoral education;
- To provide advice in support of decisions relative to the operational activities of these Programs, including: administrative policies, application procedures and requirements, program eligibility, criteria for review panels, application review procedures, stipend levels, staff and site visit policies;
- To consider new program initiatives including evaluating the appropriate nature of requests for new Associateship and Fellowship Programs from federal agencies and private sponsors;
- To advise the Programs on effective methods for recruitment of highly qualified applicants and, in particular, recruitment of minority candidates;
- To help in the identification of ways to integrate new information technologies into the management of the program;
- To advise the Programs on adequate measures of success and methods to meet sponsors requirements for program evaluation and assessment; and
- To engage in periodic assessments of the future environment in key government agencies and private sponsors that are part of the Programs.
- In the conduct of these tasks, it is anticipated that the overall Committee will meet once each year and subcommittees for AFPAC activities will meet separately at times appropriate to the individual functions of the Associateship and Fellowship Programs.
