This workshop provides practical and strategic suggestions on how to face the many challenges of the dissertation from its beginning to end for those in the social sciences. We will address various questions and challenges that may arise from the process of developing a feasible dissertation question, creating a supportive dissertation committee, writing a publishable dissertation, and finally filing it! Discussion topics will include, among other things, mentor and committee relationships, identifying and avoiding pitfalls while staying the course especially concerning time management and social isolation, balancing reading/writing/data collecting, and creating support systems. Finally, the workshop will take an interactive format, allowing opportunities for fellows to pose questions and to offer insights from their own experiences.
