The GDEST E.U. - U.S. Workshop on Quantum Information and Coherence
A collaborative program between The Max Planck Society The Max Planck Institute for Quantum Optics and The National Academies Munich, Germany December 8-9, 2005 German Research Organizations and the U.S. National Academies have convened a workshop on “Quantum Information and Coherence” that was held in the Administrative Headquarters of the Max Planck Society in downtown Munich, Hofgartenstraße 8, on December 8 – 9, 2005. This two-day conference was initiated within the framework of a new U.S. National Academies program, the Global Dialogues on Emerging Science and Technology (GDEST). GDEST comprises a series of science and engineering conferences on fundamental research that are intended to facilitate interactions between leading U.S. scientists and engineers and their foreign peers as well as promising young investigators who are conducting leading-edge research. On the European side, the conference was organized by the Max Planck Society and the Max Planck Institute for Quantum Optics in cooperation with the German Research Association, the Helmholtz Association of German Research Centres and the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. In addition to presentations by 16 high-level experts from both Europe and the US, 50 junior level scientists were also highlighted during the poster sessions each day of the conference. Approximately 140 experts, academics and researchers attended this event and it was an overwhelming success.
