The Profiles of Leaders web page highlights three Academies members who have made Campaign leadership gifts to support programs at the Academies. Though their gifts serve different purposes and range in size from $25,000 to $1 million, they have a fundamental goal in common: enhancing the capacity of the National Academies to guide the science, engineering, and medicine enterprises -- and thereby improve the quality of life nationally and globally. NAE's Norman Augustine, IOM's Colleen Conway-Welch, and NAS's Elkan Blout are each profiled.
The National Academies publicly launched the Campaign with a symposium on November 17 and 18, 2000. A distinguished roster of speakers discussed the key challenges of the 21st Century, and the impact of science, engineering, and medicine on those challenges. Audio files and text excerpts of the presentations are available.
