NAE ANNUAL FUND
FRONTIERS OF ENGINEERING
The NAE’s Frontiers of Engineering program was created because engineering is increasingly interdisciplinary, with many of the most exciting and powerful developments occurring at the intersections of disciplines. Each year, the Frontiers symposia bring together 100 emerging engineering leaders to explore opportunities for innovation across a wide range of disciplines. These multidisciplinary programs bring together the best 30-to-45 year old professionals in industry, academia, and government to discuss leading-edge developments and opportunities.
By elaborating on cutting-edge research for colleagues outside their field, participants set aside specialized terminology and technique to highlight major research challenges, methodologies, applications, and limits-to-progress in their respective fields. The program fosters exchange of ideas, establishes new lines of contact, and encourages new collaborations.

|
The success of the Frontiers program can be measured by the consistently enthusiastic evaluations offered by its more than 600 participants; by its expansion internationally through bilateral programs with Germany and Japan; and by the increasing number of former Frontiers participants elected to Academy membership -- five in the last year alone. Thus, the program not only encourages brilliant and innovative engineers; it also enriches the Academy and the engineering enterprise.
