FRONTIERS OF SCIENCE

Each year, the Academy's Frontiers of Science symposium brings together 100 of the very best young scientists from across a wide range of the natural sciences to discuss exciting advances and opportunities in their fields in a format that encourages informal discussions. Through their participation in this unique program, these young scientists (under age 45) gain both wider perspectives and new insights to apply to their own fields.

Frontiers speakers surmount the barriers imposed by specialized terminology and technique to highlight major research challenges, methodologies, and limits-to-progress for colleagues outside the speakers' respective fields. In the process, participants learn from and form collaborative relationships with colleagues in other fields.

With the domestic Frontiers series now having spawned bilateral symposia with Germany, China and Japan, the Frontiers program has become a vehicle for bringing together the best young natural science researchers in the United States and around the world. And it is helping shape the perspective of many scientists rising to positions of leadership in their institutions and professions.
