ANNUAL FUND OF THE

INSTITUTE OF MEDICINE

The Institute of Medicine provides federal policymakers with objective analysis and recommendations on a range of pressing health policy issues; yet millions of health-care consumers and health professionals who could directly benefit from these studies never see that information.

To correct that, the Institute is expanding outreach to the news media, using online communications regularly, and distributing more copies of original reports. Where there is a clear target-audience, the IOM also is recasting reports into more focused and accessible “lay versions” -- some of which are featured below.

The federal government and foundations will rarely pay for these communication activities. Thus the IOM must fund most of these outreach efforts itself, through individual contributions and endowment income.

As you read about the Institute’s communication program and the publications below, consider the significance you place on the IOM’s public communication efforts specifically, and on the Institute’s general ability to self-initiate and internally fund needed programs.

To make an Annual Fund gift or Campaign pledge, use our secure on-line form or check out the Making Your Gift section of our website. Your gift may entitle you to membership in one of our giving societies, which recognize donors' significant contributions.
