Pan-Organizational Summit on the U.S. Science and Engineering Workforce: Meeting Summary

In 2002, GUIRR sponsored several activities related to U.S. science and engineering workforce. Particular attention was paid to production of students in physical sciences and engineering (2002 GUIRR Annual Report)
PAN-ORGANIZATIONAL SUMMIT ON U.S. SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING WORKFORCE
Congressional staff, high level policy makers, GUIRR and National Academies members, policy organizations and think tanks came together to address the growing concern about the low production of domestic science and engineering talent. Click here for more background.

- Written position papers and presentations from the leadership of over 30 organizations
- Significant press coverage in Nature, Chemical and Engineering News, Science’s Next Wave, AIP FYI, The Edge, EE Times, ASME News, IEEE USA News, Los Angeles Times
- Proceedings and summary of community positions (forthcoming)
COALITION OF THE CONCERNED FOR THE VITALITY OF THE U.S. SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING WORKFORCE
GUIRR-sponsored working group that accomplished the following in 2002: (2002 Annual Report)
- A preliminary survey of outreach and internship programs across federal agencies
- Dissemination of best practices in measuring outcomes of such programs
- Engagement with OPM on its development of a central internship website that would serve all federal agencies
